VRS Coanda Simsport’s Monthly Roundup – May

May has been the most quiet month of the season so far with only 2 World Championship races. This meant we could really focus well on both races without any other distractions.

iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series R5 – Monza
Apex set the bar in qualifying with Peter Berryman on pole and Jamie Fluke close behind in second. Mitchell and Martin would start in P3 and P4 while Mack would grid in P6. Martti rounded out the top 10 in qualifying and Tommy started in 18th. David chose to sit out the qualifying session in order to start from the back of the grid. Mitchell got an excellent launch and was up into P1 before the first turn. After slightly missing his braking point he was forced to take a slow down penalty but did not serve it in time. This mean that he had to come into the pits to further serve the penalty which dropped him to the back of the grid. Martin made quick work of Peter in the following laps and was soon catching up to Jamie. On exit of the Ascari chicane Martin got loose and his car hit the wall. This now meant Mack was promoted to P3 with Peter and Jamie in front of him. The next lap Mack managed to overtake Peter and chase down Jamie. Jamie and Peter pitted early and elected to go for the two-stop strategy while Mack went on for the one-stop. A few laps later Jamie picked up damage due to a crash with Peter and David in Ascari. This meant that Mack could drive home safely and pick up his second victory in the series. Tommy had a stellar drive through the field and ended up getting his best result in the series yet in P4. Martti was unfortunately dropped from the server while Mitchell fought back to finish in P10. David ended the race right behind Mitchell in P11.

FISRA – Round 3 & 4
Joni qualified in P6 for the Monza round and finished P4 in a very draft heavy race. The fourth round, held in Phillip Island, started off badly for Joni. He had some issues in qualifying and had to start in P23. In an exciting race he managed to climb his way through the field and finish 16 positions up on his starting position and ended P7. Joni is now P4 in the championship standings and is looking good to qualify for the final LAN event.

VRS GT World Championship R4 – Nurburgring
Qualifying started out well with Mitchell qualifying the #8 car in P2 only half a tenth off PRT Red. Jeremy in the #18 qualified P10 and Markus P12 for the #1. The race started out well, but it quickly became apparent the Coanda cars had issues keeping up with others in the slow corners. Mitchell managed to defend well throughout the first stint from a fast Joshua K Rogers behind. A lot of the leading cars opted to go for different strategies. The #8 car went for short stints with other cars going for longer stints and a final short stint with no tyres. In the end the fresh tyres unfortunately weren’t enough for the #8 car and they had to settle for second. The #18 car finished in P11 and the #1 in P15. This means the #8 car is now P2 in the championship, the #1 car in P12 and the #18 in P20.
