Mack is the 2016-2017 iRacing Road Pro Series champion!

mackVRS Coanda Simsport driver Mack Bakkum has clinched the iRacing Road Pro Series title for the 2016-2017 season.

Mack’s season started rough, with a DNF after no practise time at Interlagos, but he bounced back with wins in Montreal, Spa and Imola. The finale at the Nürburgring was a showdown with Jamie Fluke from Apex Racing UK. Fluke took pole and led the opening phase of the race, and had one hand on the trophy, until connection issues caused him to tangle with teammate Marcus Jensen at the Veedol chicane. A fifth place at the checkers was enough for Mack to finish the season standings in first place.

Mack had comforting words for Jamie after the race: “It was a tough ride. I’m happy to get the championship, although it was very fortunate for me today. I feel really gutted for Jamie, he drove great all season. For him to end it like that is very sad. I hope he doesn’t feel too bad about it, because he drove like a champion.”

Mack is now eligible for the iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series, and joins the rostrum of Coanda’s iWCGPS drivers, with Mitchell deJong, Martti Pietilä, and reigning world champion Martin Krönke. The 2017 iWCGPS season starts March 4th at Interlagos.
